At the virtual FEST conference 2020 Agnieszka Aysen Kaim presented 'Storytelling traditions in Turkey - - Where Oral Literature Meets Performing Culture'

As being a part of Altaic and Middle Eastern oral traditions, influenced by Central Asian Shamanic and nomadic cultures, Persian ‘shahnameh’, Arabic ‘hakawati’ traditions, the performing potential of the storytelling art in Turkey reveals in various forms. Since this diversity is a source of inspiration, in this forum, we would like to introduce you specific features of some traditional storytelling genres in Turkey known as : popular storyteller ‚meddah’; singer of tales: ‚ozan’/‚aşık’, and animator of traditional shadow theatre 'karagöz'.
