Beyond The Border Storytelling Festival Ltd.

Beyond the Border is a charity which exists to create, encourage and promote traditional storytelling for contemporary audiences.

Our vision is to 'bring the world to Wales, and take Wales to the world'. Our biennual international festival of storytelling is the cornerstone of our work, and in addition we run events and projects year-round to build audiences for storytelling and to communicate its power to entertain, transform and inform people’s lives.

BtB began life in 1993, born out of the desire to:

  • raise the status and increase understanding of storytelling as an artform suitable for all ages, adults as well as children
  • showcase performances by leading practitioners from Wales and the World involved in exploring the retelling of traditional stories for a contemporary audience
  • help develop and provide a platform for an emerging new generation of performance storytellers

For over 25 years, Beyond the Border has been Wales’ leading International Storytelling Festival which brings stories and people together, from Wales and the World, through an inspirational biennial festival.

Transporting you into the heart of West Wales, amongst rugged rolling hills and castles, immerse in stories for adults and children inspired by myths and legends, performed by home grown talent as well as high profile international artists and musicians. 2020 sees the festival relocate to a new site, the National Trust and Cadw’s Dinefwr in Carmarthenshire. Full of rich heritage and folklore, Dinefwr is a picturesque and intimate setting with a back-drop of a castle and grand house.
