The Estonian Centre of Folk Culture wishes to ensure the preservation of Estonian folk culture and the intangible cultural heritage. The Centre is responsible for implementation of cultural policy on the regional, national and international level. The Centre is responsible for creating the training
courses, lectures, seminars, about folk culture and the intangible cultural heritage.Oral storytelling as one part of the intangible cultural heritage is one of the focuses of our Centre.

What is your expertise?

Our organisation specialises among other things in oral heritage and since 2020 we organise an international storytelling festival in collaboration with all the counties of Estonia

What kind of activities do you organise?

For the storytelling part, we organise the network of local storytellers and their get-togethers, training courses for storytellers and the storytelling festival The Nights of the Nightingale in May.

What is your motivation to join FEST?

The Estonian Centre of Folk Culture has existed for almost 30 years and we have tried to develop the field of storytelling,  Our motivation to join FEST is to learn from the others, learn from other experiences, share practises and knowledge. Also, visit some festivals to get some new ideas where to develop storytelling in Estonia.
